On Friday in class, we will write another body paragraph explaining why our issue is important to NYers.

To prepare for this paragraph, please do two things.
  1. Finish your QSS or Final Word Protocol
  2. Review your grade and feedback on Paragraph #2, to see what you can do better on the next paragraph.

Revise your Paragraph #2 for Voices of Action to include a counterargument and a refutation of the argument.  Use one of the "Take-Aways" from Friday's Fishbowl.  Make sure you end you paragraph with a concluding statement about why your issue is the most important to NYers.

Remember to refute a counter claim correctly, you need to:  (1) Identify the Counterclaim, (2) Explain the reason why the counterclaim could be true, and then (3) either show that that reason is not true, or explain that that reason is still not as important as your reason for your issue.

A good counterclaim refutation will include all three steps.

    • Make sure you explain your ideas.
    • You will be assessed by Writing 1B.

Please complete Field Notes #2.
This will need to be printed on Legal Sized Paper.

This means that you will need to go to the site you chose as the "heart of your neighborhood," where you did your first Field Notes, and write down descriptions that fit your unified idea.  Write descriptions that you could add to the collage poem you created this past week.

I will be checking that the entire Field Notes (all rows, all columns) is complete when you come to class on Monday.

Please revise 4-5 of your best descriptions from Field Notes #1.  Revise to make sure your descriptions meet the criteria established in class for Writing 3E and make sure they use Active Language.

Please write your revisions on a colored piece of paper (as provided in class).  Make sure there is space between each description so you can cut the descriptions apart in class on Wednesday.

Please go to the place that you have chosen as your "heart of the neighborhood" and complete Field Notes #1.  You do not have to fill out the Make Connections column, but you do need to complete all the other boxes on the sheet.  You must have 6 complete rows of observations from your chosen place.  Make sure the observations you make and the verbs you use fit the unified idea you want to show about your neighborhood.

This will be assessed on Monday.
