Dear 10th Grade, 

You did it! After Wednesday, your Humanities 10 coursework will be complete. 

Please bring in any books you have for Humanities 10 on WEDNESDAY at the LATEST. You can pick up any last minute papers you would like after your test on Wednesday as well. 

Prepare for the Regents by practicing multiple choice, pacing yourself with sample essays, quizzing yourself on RegentsPrep.org, and emailing Ms. Hickey any questions you may have. In addition to that, if you would like to watch movies and review lessons, here are some links:

1. Complete the Documents and DBQ Essay handed out in class. 
3. DON'T FORGET: EXPO TOMORROW NIGHT AT 5PM! 10th grade presents at 6pm in the Library :) 

TIPS TO REMEMBER FOR DBQ & THEMATIC ESSAYS: 
  • ALWAYS read the historical context first. 
  • For DBQ short answers, you should ALWAYS read the questions first, then read the document (so that you know what you are looking for).
  • For DBQ short answers, you can ALWAYS copy words DIRECTLY FROM THE DOCUMENT. 
  • For essays, you should NEVER copy the historical context word-for-word to use as your introduction in your essay. 
  • For thematic essays, you should ALWAYS use the box format set-up before you write (to ensure you are hitting all aspects of the task).

1. Complete the Thematic Essay listed below. TIME YOURSELF AND DO NOT USE YOUR PACKET. You should only spend about 1 hour on this!

OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER:
  • Bring in ANY BOOKS you have for Humanities 10. 
  • Keep Studying Multiple Choice! Come to Regents Prep Thursday/Friday. 
  • Select a line or two from your memoir on google Drive to read at the Expo.

1) Complete DBQ Practice. Set up the prompts on page 3 &4. You do not have to set up the 2nd prompt. 

2) Complete Thematic Essay Practice: On looseleaf, set up a graphic organizer for BOTH thematic essay prompts. You should have received the handout today with both prompts. If not, here are the prompts:
  • Select two belief systems from your study of global history and for each 
    • Explain one major idea of the belief system (You may use any belief systems from your study of global history. Some suggestions you might wish to consider include Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Daoism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.)
    • Discuss the effects the belief system has had on the politics, society, and/or the economy of a specific nation or region

  • Select two technological innovations and for each
    • Discuss why the technological innovation was important during a specific time period (You may use  any technological innovation from your study of global history. Some suggestions include irrigation systems, astrolabe, printing press, factory systems, nuclear weapons, chemical pesticides, and satellites launched into space.)
    • DIscuss the positive and/or negative effects this technological innovation had on a society or on humankind
